Susan lives in Thorne and is the Centre Manager at the Moorends Miners Welfare and Community Development Centre on West Rd, Moorends. She has been an active volunteer in the community for most of her life.
Susan was first elected as a Town Councillor for Moorends in 2011 and served as Town Mayor between 2017 and 2019. She was first elected as a Doncaster [DMBC] Councillor in 2015. Most of Susan's adult life has been dedicated to serving this community, and she has been an active Councillor for Thorne and Moorends; she regularly helps local residents with confidential casework, works to support other local groups in the community (incl the Moorends Welfare Ground Working Group and Friends of Thorne Park) and has played a key role in organising local events including the Moorends Gala, Christmas Lights Switch On, WW1 Centenary Events and the Fundraising Christmas Concerts. Most recently, Susan has dedicated her time to delivering food parcels to the most vulnerable members of our community during the covid-19 pandemic and she has been volunteering at the local vaccination centre at Thorne Leisure Centre. She also coordinated the flood relief effort from Thorne and Moorends, gathering much needed supplies and donations and delivering them to those in desperate need. Susan prides herself on being available; to help report concerns, discuss casework, support activities or just to provide a listening ear. Her ambition is to give back to the community in a meaningful way and Susan hopes that, by working as a team with her Labour Party Candidates, she will be able to help deliver meaningful change to help improve the lives of those in this community. |
